Have you ever wondered what's all the hype about debt management?  Well, just look around and you will see debt management companies popping up everywhere.  Why is that so? Before the economy slowed, credit card companies were almost allowing anyone wanting one the opportunity to get one. It's no wonder that consumers are forced to ask for some kind of debt help.

But here's the thing.  You don't need a debt management company to help you with your debt problems.  The good news is you can do for yourself exactly what you will be paying them to do.

Here's how debt management works.

You simply create a debt management plan (a simple excel worksheet will do)

Place the following on your worksheet:

  • All your debts

  • How much you owe

  • Monthly payments

  • Due dates

Next Step:

If you feel overwhelmed with your debt you can deal directly with your creditor.

Here's what you can do.

  • Gather all your debts

  • Get telephone number for each creditor

  • Call each requesting some relief from the debt.

Some relief you can ask for includes:

  •    Lower interest rate

  •    Lower monthly payments

  •    Debt settlement (offer to pay the debt in full at a reduced amount)
